cooking class

A few months ago my friend Melissa invited me to take a whole foods cooking class with her through UVU's Community Education. We had such a blast and learned so many great things. It just so happened that our teacher, Desiree, needed some photography and design work done for her website, so we all hooked up and got to work. In trade she is coming to teach a class for my ward on Wednesday, January 19. If you would like to join us let me know. I have learned loads of good stuff that I am incorporating into our family diet. Here is a peek at her new website.

feast for the eyes

Isn't Bakerella amazing?

I think her new book would be so fun to have...

and on her blog she featured this recipe that came from another really-cool-must-put-on-my-wish-list book...

Tastebook

Yesterday I happened upon this fabulous website. I love cookbooks...it is something I get from my mother. We buy each other cookbooks for every holiday. In fact, someday I am going to inherit a whole load of them! I have been working on compiling my favorite recipes for some time now and I think this is the perfect way to put them together. Oh...and the gifting possibilities... I am so excited to play with this. Of course, I had to share.

cream cheese cupcakes

My sis Hollie makes the best cupcakes. Today she made some St. Patrick's Day cupcakes and posted this recipe on her blog:

Cream Cheese Vanilla Cupcakes

2 egg whites
8 oz soft cream cheese
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 classic white cake mix (For this recipe I prefer the blue box-Pillsbury)
1 cup water
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix cream cheese, oil and egg whites until flluffy. Add everything else. The batter is thick! Add desired color. For best results use the Wilton Gel (can be found even at Walmart) Bake 350. For the mini cupcakes 10 minutes, full size 18 minutes. Enjoy!

I can't wait to try them out myself. Aren't they darling??

homemade artisan bread

I just baked this tasty loaf of rustic, crusty bread...I never thought this would be possible at home. I am used to paying $5-6 a loaf at Kneaders...not anymore...just some flour, salt, yeast, water and a little time...amazing! Next time around I am going to try mixing in some Asiago cheese. Click here for the "formula"...that's fancy for recipe!

(I got this recipe from A Little Sussy and she recommended increasing the salt to 1 1/2 tsp. and lining the baking pan with parchment paper...both of which turned out to be great suggestions. I also decided to bake it at 425 degrees.)
