Little Heroes

Today I had the chance to volunteer at Travis Hansen's Charity Basketball Camp benefitting his Little Heros Foundation. It was such a great experience...a little bit challenging from a photography point-of-view, but maybe that was part of what made it such a great experience for me!

Little Heroes is such an amazing organization. This is what they believe:

"Little Heroes is more than just a name; it stands for something. Little Heroes lift others up when they are too scared to stand alone. They walk among us every day and everywhere, holding onto the belief that right and wrong still exist, and that decency and love will somehow triumph in the end. Little Heroes are both the parents and the child with leukemia who wake up every morning, seven days a week, to drive to the hospital for endless hours of cancer treatments. We can only imagine the emotional, physical and financial impact on the patient, their parents, siblings and loved ones.

By definition, a hero is someone who fights for a noble cause, a person distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility and strength. Anyone can be a hero. Little Heroes are ordinary people who do extraordinary things. A true hero is really never a hero at all; at least not in his or her own mind. It is not toughness and fortitude that makes one a hero, it is humility and doing what one thinks is right. It is rising to the call like the fireman who disregards his own life to rush in and save a child from a burning home. He does not think of himself as a hero; he just thinks of himself as an ordinary man given an opportunity to serve. Little Heroes are defined by their self-sacrifice for the good of humanity rather than for their own self-centered interests."

It was fun to be a part of something so big. It truly is incredible what happens when people come together toward a great cause. I am excited to go back tomorrow for more fun!

Thanks, Little Heroes, for the opportunity.

How fun! What a great idea and it looked like a lot of fun. I'm sure one day, Zac will be right there with them.
